Where did the name Sabella wine come from?
In ’99 they decided to keep some grapes back for release under the Sabella label; Sabella derives from a pseudonym given to the Petrucci name six generations ago. The George Mackey Award 2009 (best wine exported from Australia) for the ‘05 Cabernet Sauvignon was a remarkable high point for Sabella.
When was the first vintage of Arabella wine made?
As the vineyards had been established many years previously, it was assured that top quality wines would be produced at Arabella. A new cellar, bottling hall and tasting room was built at the beginning of 2006 and the first vintage from the cellar was produced in 2006.
When do they pick Merlot for Arabella wines?
Merlot is picked between 7 March and 21 March. Once crushed the wine is pumped into fermentation tanks. Tailored pump overs are done twice daily during fermentation to obtain delicate fruit tannins and maximize flavours and colour extraction. Wine and skins then pumped into an airbag press with a central inflatable membrane.
Why did Stephen de Wet name his wine Arabella?
Achieving this goal is our passion. The name Arabella was chosen as a word play on the beautiful Arabian horses, which grace its verdant pastures. Stephen de Wet and son Jamie are both very keen endurance riders. Jamie received his national colours in 2004.
