What are the markings on my progressive lenses?

Progressive lenses are supplied with two types of markings for layout, power verification, dispensing and identification purposes. Permanent markings, which are engraved upon the surface, provide the identification and add power of the lens, as well as locator marks to reapply the ink markings when necessary.

What do the markings on eyeglass lenses mean?

Why do Specsavers varifocals have engraving on them?

Every varifocal lens has a series of engravings on them to allow identification of model and manufacturer and allow the setup to be checked. Some are more obvious than others but you won’t see any of them when you are wearing the spectacles.

Can a varifocal lens affect the quality of vision?

Some manufacturers’ markings are more visible than others but should not affect the quality of vision through the lenses. If you have had varifocals before without problems and there was no significant change in your prescription then it sounds like you may have a different “style” of varifocal from your previous pair.
