How long does it take for Buccastem to work?
Prochlorperazine starts to work in around 30 to 60 minutes. Common side effects include feeling sleepy and blurred vision. You can usually take prochlorperazine when you need it, up to 3 times a day. It’s best not to drink alcohol while taking prochlorperazine.
Does Buccastem help anxiety?
Prochlorperazine is a medicine with many different uses. It’s taken in low doses for nausea and vomiting, and dizziness or vertigo caused by inner ear problems. It’s also used for anxiety. In higher doses it’s used to treat psychotic illness such as schizophrenia.
How long do buccal tablets take to dissolve?
The tablet will soften and adhere to the gum. Allow it to dissolve slowly and completely – this may take between 1 and 2 hours. Most people find that after a few minutes they no longer notice the tablet. The tablet should not be moved about the mouth with the tongue as this will cause it to dissolve too quickly.
What happens if you swallow a buccal tablet?
If you swallow or suck buccal tablets they will not work. If you have more than 1 ulcer, move the tablet around your mouth so the medicine can dissolve on each ulcer.
How many Buccastem can I take?
The recommended dose is one or two tablets twice a day for a maximum of 2 days, for adults aged 18 years or over. Buccastem M Tablets are not recommended for children under 18 years of age. Please read carefully before taking the tablet(s).
Can you eat after taking Buccastem?
Don’t eat while the tablet is in your mouth. The usual dose of Buccastem M tablets is one or two tablets twice a day. Do not exceed this dose.
Is Buccastem safe?
Like all medicines, Buccastem M Tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. If you experience any of the following side effects, you should stop taking Buccastem M Tablets and contact your doctor immediately: Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as rash and swelling of the face, tongue or throat.
Does putting a pill under your tongue make it work faster?
Sublingual medications are placed under the tongue. Administration through direct absorption into the mouth provides an advantage to medications you swallow. Sublingual drugs go into effect more quickly because they don’t have to go through your stomach and digestive system before being absorbed into the bloodstream.

Buccastem is a brand name of a medicine called prochlorperazine maleate. It is available as a 3mg tablet, on prescription and also from pharmacies (as “Buccastem-M”, for the relief of nausea and sickness associated with migraines).
Can mouth ulcers last for months?
Major ulcers are 1cm or larger, have a raised border and can last from two weeks to several months. Usually only one or two appear at a time. They can be very painful and cause difficulty eating, are slower to heal and can leave scars.
