Do bucking rolls help?
Bucking rolls are two padded pouches that are added to the front of the saddle seat. Most bucking rolls are filled with wool, trimmed from bark-tanned sheepskin. Bucking Rolls supplement the swells on a saddle and help a rider stay secure in the saddle.

Are Bucking rolls removable?
Most can be removed easily, therefore making the saddle more versatile. There is little chance of changing a swell fork front as easily or as substantially. Also, from a standpoint of comfort, buck rolls are softer than the wood of a swell fork tree.

Some saddles (slick forks) are widest at the bottom and narrower as they join at the horn. Others (swell forks) are widest across the middle of the fork, thus creating a swell above the upper leg as one rides. A saddle with swells gives riders something extra to grip with their legs if things get a little Western.

Bucking rolls are designed to be easily put on or removed. On Western saddles there are typically two screws toward the front of the saddle (see photo below). To add bucking rolls to a saddle, all that is usually necessary is to remove the screws, put the bucking rolls in place, then replace the screws.
