What is PPI display in radar?

A plan position indicator (PPI) is a type of radar display that represents the radar antenna in the center of the display, with the distance from it and height above ground drawn as concentric circles. As the radar antenna rotates, a radial trace on the PPI sweeps in unison with it about the center point.

What is a-scope display in radar?

The original radar display, the A-scope or A-display, shows only the range, not the direction, to targets. These are sometimes referred to as R-scopes for range scope. The primary input to the A-scope was the amplified return signal received from the radar, which was sent into the Y-axis of the display.

What type of information is shown on radar display?

A numerical readout is another example of a radar display; it may indicate the range, bearing, or speed of a particular target or the status of a radar function. The information is typically presented on a screen for direct viewing by the operator.

Which antenna is used for radar?

Among the different types of reflector Antennas, the simple parabolic reflectors and the Cassegrain feed parabolic reflectors are the most commonly used ones.

How many types of radar displays are there?

There are two types of radar displays in common use today. Raw video displays are simply oscilloscopes that display the detected and amplified target return signal (and the receiver noise). Raw video displays require a human operator to interpret the various target noise and clutter signals.

What is a radar indicator?

[′rā‚där ‚in·də‚kād·ər] (electronics) A cathode-ray tube and associated equipment used to provide a visual indication of the echo signals picked up by a radar set.

What kind of warnings are on the radarscope?

RadarScope displays tornado, severe thunderstorm, flash flood, and special marine warnings issued by the U.S. National Weather Service. You can browse the list of active warnings in the information sidebar, select a warning to view the details, and even zoom to the selected warning on the map.

What does the B scope look like on a radar?

The B-Scope shows a picture like a Cartesian diagram. It provides a 2-D “top down” representation of space. The horizontal axis ( abscissa ) typically represents the measurement of the azimuth (bearing), and the vertical axis ( ordinate ) represents the measurement of the range. Signals appear as bright spots.

Where do I get my radarscope data from?

You can display radar data from our servers, NOAA’s public access web site, or your Allison House subscriber account. Spotter Network members can report their location and view the locations of other spotters. RadarScope Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription with two different tiers to choose from.

What do I need to know about radarscope pro?

RadarScope Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription with two different tiers to choose from. RadarScope Pro Tier One is an annual subscription that provides access to real-time lightning data in the U.S. and Canada that animates along with the radar loop and up to 30 frames of radar data, including extended loops of super-resolution data.
