Is Nhsbt part of NHS?

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) improves the supply of donated blood, organs and tissues, and raises the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of blood and transplant services. NHSBT is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department of Health and Social Care.

What do you know about Nhsbt?

We provide a blood and transplantation service to the NHS, looking after blood donation services in England and transplant services across the UK. This includes managing the donation, storage and transplantation of blood, organs, tissues, bone marrow and stem cells, and researching new treatments and processes.

Why is NHS Blood and Transplant phoning me?

This number calls when the NHS has low stocks of blood (specifically your blood type if you’ve donated before). If they don’t get an answer they will call again that day or soon after. If you don’t wish to take an extended call or don’t wish to make an appointment you can tell them so and they will end the call.

What is an RCI lab?

Red Cell Immunohaematology (RCI) matches patients who need blood transfusions with safe and compatible blood. We also provide expert diagnostic services for conditions affecting foetuses, children and adults in cases of complex transfusion, organ and stem cell transplants.

Is O+ blood type rare?

Patients with any blood type can receive O negative blood. O+ is the most frequently occurring blood type and is found in 37 percent of the population. O- is found in six percent of the population.

Where are the NHSBT immunogenetics laboratories located?

Immunogenetics including diagnostic testing and pharmacogenetics We are a national network of six laboratories located at NHSBT Barnsley, Birmingham, Colindale, Filton, Newcastle and Tooting.
